IBC – Beat the Streets
After being our charity for only 12 months, the IBC’s program, which was initially centered on boxing to attract at-risk youth, is growing and expanding like never before. Below are some of the exciting changes for 2012:
IBC is partnering with Beat the Streets, a national non-profit organization with wrestling programs in several U.S. cities, including Toledo, Ohio. Beat the Streets' mission is: "Through the sport of wrestling, we want to provide positive experiences to the youth of America's cities by teaching them the importance of academics, leadership and sportsmanship." While IBC has already been helping youth through boxing, with this new sport and partnership, they hope to help even more kids in our community. International Boxing Club's new name will be IBC Beat the Streets and the new website is http://beatthestreetstoledo.org, where you can find more information about their sports programs.
In addition to the Beat the Streets partnership, IBC also is partnering with Toledo Public Schools. Since Toledo Public Schools will no longer be offering wrestling programs to their students, IBC has stepped in to fill that gap. The school system will promote the program as the go-to wrestling organization for its students.
Because of the partnerships with Beat the Streets and Toledo Public Schools, IBC will now be offering additional sports for boys and girls, including wrestling, volleyball and softball. They also will be offering more programs for students including the Institute for Building Careers, which offers their after-school learning/tutoring program, their vocational program, and their Gloves with Love community service program. Also, Eastern Michigan, Tiffin University and the University of Toledo will be offering scholarships specifically for IBC students in 2012. You can learn about these programs on the new website http://www.ibcprograms.org.
Furthermore, IBC is moving to a much larger facility to accommodate for their anticipated growth and expansion. We are so excited to be a part of this amazing organization and hope to continue to offer even more support in 2012!
